University of Arizona Global Campus Student Success Assistant (Work-Study) in United States

The Student Success Assistant (Work Study) is a remote part-time employment opportunity in the Student Affairs Department. Reporting to the Student Success Program Manager, the role will be responsible for supporting Student Affairs initiatives that support the developmental needs of the diverse University of Arizona Global Campus student population, including CHAMPS peer mentoring, Honor Society enrollment and engagement, UAGC club and community communications and programming, and supporting the peer tutoring program. Student Success Assistants provide support to UAGC students through peer mentoring, peer academic tutoring, student engagement, and through promotion and administration of Honor Societies at UAGC. Also, as part of the UAGC FWS program, students are provided leadership and development opportunities to foster continued growth and development at the university and to further prepare them in their careers, including being provided an Executive Mentor within the UAGC community.

Essential Student Affairs, CHAMPS, Student Engagement, and Peer Tutoring Job Duties: CHAMPS stands for Collaborative and Holistic Academic Mentoring for Peer Success. As a CHAMPS Peer Mentor, this position will be matched with incoming and new undergraduate students (mentees) to create a space for peer-to-peer mentorship that promotes student development and success. This position will support Student Engagement at UAGC by administrating Honor Society drives, as well as providing communication and programming support to our many Clubs & Communities. This position will be expected to engage in UAGC Connect (PeopleGrove) as part of both CHAMPS and Student Engagement. The mission of the Peer Tutoring Program (PTP) is to provide timely, positive, and supportive help to students so they may achieve their academic goals and overcome academic obstacles. We seek to build a community of students supporting students by offering course- and assignment-specific tutoring by a cohort of accomplished student tutors who can relate to the experiences of online students.

Student Employment Eligibility : Students must be awarded Federal College Work-study to employ any Student Employment positions. UAGC (University of Arizona Global Campus) will determine your eligibility on your behalf once you have applied. Federal Work-study (FWS) provides part-time jobs for students attending the University of Arizona Global Campus with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to service leadership. Federal Work-study (FWS) programs are called campus-based programs because they are administered directly by the financial aid office at each participating school. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes equity among our student body and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide one to one mentorship for first time college students (mentees) and other students as assigned through CHAMPS.

  • Assist with quarterly Honor Society drives and communicate with Honor Society advisors/members.

  • Contribute to asynchronous discussion boards and group spaces on UAGC Connect (PeopleGrove)

  • Contribute to asynchronous discussion boards provided for CHAMPS participants as assigned.

  • Work 1:1 with first-year students to provide positive and supportive course and assignment-specific academic tutoring.

  • Conduct phone, email, and video conference outreach to students.

  • Engage in one’s own mentorship provided by leaders at UAGC.

  • Complete initial training modules, additional professional development training, and other learning or supportive tasks as provided.

  • Maintain University records when communicating with students. Complete a short Session Notes Form for each tutoring session.

  • Attend CHAMPS team, Student Engagement team, and Student Affairs department meetings via Zoom.

  • Attend and support the various CHAMPS flash mentoring sessions and new participant training via Zoom as assigned.

  • Act as UAGC ambassadors on social channels, including UAGC Connect.

  • Active on the UAGC CHAMPS hotline for student inbound calls.

  • Proven organizational skills maintaining communication records.

  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills.

  • Excitement for working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional time management skills.

  • Must be available to work 19 hours per week, including some evening time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible to receive Federal Work Study funding. (UAGC will determine on your behalf)

  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program with The University of Arizona Global Campus.

  • Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress.

  • Have no holds on student account.

  • Have no history of Student Community Standards violations.

  • Must have successfully completed first-year courses GEN 102, GEN 103, GEN 104, and ENG 121 (or have transfer credits of equivalent courses) with a minimum grade of a B in each of these courses.

  • Must be available to work 19 hours per week, including some evening time ​

  • Must work a minimum of 5 hours per week as a peer tutor (14 hours for CHAMPS/Student Affairs work).

  • Possess reliable phone, internet connection and computer.

  • The successful candidate will be an active/enrolled student in a degree-seeking program at The University of Arizona Global Campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in Zoom or other virtual meeting modalities.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Outlook calendar scheduling.

  • Preferably equipped with a profile on UAGC Connect.

Compensation Type: Hourly at .475 full-time equivalence (FTE)

The Grade Range Minimum, Midpoint, and Maximum Fields listed below represent a full range of career compensation growth over time in this position and grade.
