University of Arizona Global Campus Online Associate (Adjunct) Faculty - Doctoral Dissertation Chair (Remote) in United States
Position Summary:
The Online Associate (Adjunct) Faculty position is a part-time, temporary adjunct employment opportunity. The Online Associate (Adjunct) Faculty member performs duties relating to online instruction including but not limited to posting faculty guidance and expectations, participating in classroom discussion boards, grading assignments, and promptly responding to student inquiries. This is an online adjunct teaching position, and other duties may be assigned according to experience and qualifications.
The Doctoral Dissertation Chair oversees individual doctoral students research process and serves as the project manager for their dissertation. The Chair facilitates dissertation courses and the relationship between the student, the rest of the dissertation committee, and the others involved with administration of the student's doctoral research project. Reviewing and providing weekly feedback on each assignment/draft submission and all doctoral research milestones, the Chair assists students with finalizing the Letter of Intent (LOI) , formulating the proposal, compiling the IRB application, collecting and analyzing research data, and finalizing the manuscript. The Chair is responsible for participating in dialogue with the student in each weekly discussion forum and ensuring that weekly discussion prompts and exercises are appropriately completed by the student and documented within the classroom. The Chair provides feedback and uploads the required weekly draft submission to the grade book, and completes the week 6 and 9 grading rubrics in Waypoint. The Chair holds the student accountable for meeting milestones associated with each dissertation or ADP course, and grades student efforts accordingly

Collaborate within the University community to ensure a positive overall experience for all University students, including the following: the Office of Access and Wellness to holistically support student success in the classroom by implementing university-approved accommodations, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to foster professional growth as it relates to successful teaching for the UAGC student population, and the Student Records department to maintain timely and accurate student records
Adhere to all faculty requirements such as facilitating and engaging in classroom discussion boards, grading assignments and discussions, and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner
One professional development session is required to be completed per course taught. Examples are synchronous faculty development opportunities, webinars, course development feedback, etc.
Establish Relationships: Creatively use available tools and strategies to enhance relationships, create a community of learners willing to take risks and actively engage with one another
Critical Thinking: Consistently foster critical thinking through challenging students to elaborate on their thoughts, question their assumptions, examine biases, communicate in a clear and concise manner, and defend their positions throughout the course
Instructive Feedback to Students: Provide instructive feedback that challenges and inspires students while providing specific suggestions to improve the quality of their work and thinking
High Expectations: Effectively demonstrate high expectations, while holding students accountable for insightful exchanges and high-quality performance on assignments, and promote active engagement in their own learning
Demonstrate Instructor Expertise: Effectively and consistently utilize expertise in subject matter by providing personal experiences and connecting course knowledge to real-world examples. Enhance course content and resources to encourage student comprehension and application of course learning outcomes
Work in cooperation with dissertation Committee Members and support staff to facilitate successful and efficient student progress
Submit accurate and timely paperwork supporting assigned doctoral student(s)
Guide student(s) in (a) setting goals for each course, (b) managing relationships with the Committee Member and Methodological Reader, (c) finalizing their research project, (d) developing a timeline to meet dissertation milestones, (e) following ethical guidelines for research, (f) conducting research and analyzing data, (g) effectively writing at a doctoral level
Prepare student(s) before the Preliminary and Final Oral Defense, act as the moderator during each Defense, and follow up with the student after each Defense
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution and successful completion of a culminating doctoral research project
Expertise in research methodology and proficiency in guiding the doctoral research process
CITI certification
Documented record of research and doctoral-level teaching
Resident and eligibility to work in the United States
Internet connection and computer with video capabilities
Work related experience in area of degree
Commitment to teaching in an online environment
Commitment to uphold University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Documented success in supporting students through their doctoral journey, leading to graduation
Publications in peer reviewed scholarly journals or books
Experience teaching in the online classroom
College level teaching experience
Experience teaching in area of degree

Rate of Pay: $19.25 - $29.97, DOE
Compensation Type: Hourly at .475 Full-Time Equivalency (FTE)
