University of Arizona Global Campus Accountant II in United States
The Accountant II position is a full-time employment opportunity. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant II will process daily financial activity, prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger and bank accounts and assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements. In this role, the Accountant II will be responsible for ensuring that proper internal controls are enforced so that all financial transactions are properly classified and recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Duties will also include assistance with financial and SOX audits. Additional duties will include ad hoc reporting and analysis as required.
The successful candidate will help support the company’s accounting and reporting policies, play a key role in maintain the company’s accounting records, participating in system implementations/process improvements and assist in the planning and analytical support for the company’s operation units.
Essential Job Duties:
Reconciliations of divisional level accounts, including detailed bank reconciliations, and other asset and liability accounts.
Playing a key role in the month-end closing process including the preparation of journal entries and analysis of financial statements.
Assisting with the creation of desk-procedures for the general accounting department.
Providing analytical support to the company’s operating units.
Posting of daily bank transactions to the general ledger.
Review documents such as contracts and invoices, in order to properly maintain amortization schedules for balance sheet accounts.
Review expense reports for compliance with company policy, process approved reports for payment using Concur software.
Create and maintain capital lease schedules.
Assisting in maintain the company’s financial reporting system; participating in system implementations/upgrades and process improvements, as necessary
Understand GAAP and can interpret and apply basic GAAP concepts at the transactional level.
Ensuring SOX controls and procedures are followed.
Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
Solid understanding of financial processes/systems; adept at implementing initiatives to reduce costs or improve efficiency.
Advanced proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word.
Strong computer and financial system skills.
Highly motivated with a strong work ethic; able to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and provide quality output with minimal supervision/direction.
Detail oriented, analytical thinker who also understands the big picture and can identify and act on issues before they become problems.
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
2+ years of recent public accounting firm experience preferred.
2+ years of industry experience working with general ledger system – GreatPlains preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
